Small businesses getting big boost as LeBron James signs with 76ers

A Doylestown T-shirt shop is already cashing in on the biggest NBA free agency shocker in years. Monkey's Uncle Retro Philly Tee Shirts has been pressing LeBron James-themed apparel since the news broke on Friday, turning a rumor into a retail rush.

The small business, known for its vintage-style Philadelphia sports gear, saw an immediate spike in orders after reports surfaced that James would sign with the 76ers. Owner Mike Delp said the shop scrambled to get designs ready within hours of the first whispers. "We had a few mockups sitting in a folder, just in case," Delp said. "Once the news hit, we hit print."

The shirts feature classic Philly imagery combined with James' number 23, a nod to both his current jersey and the city's blue-collar aesthetic. Delp noted that the initial run of 200 shirts sold out by Saturday afternoon, and a second batch is already on the way. "This is the kind of buzz you dream about," he said. "It's not just a signing. It's a statement."

The move is a major win for the 76ers, who have long pursued a superstar to pair with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. For small businesses like Monkey's Uncle, it is a chance to ride a wave of local excitement. Delp said he expects the demand to hold steady through the season opener, especially if the team makes a deep playoff run.

"We are a mom-and-pop shop," he said. "Moments like this keep the lights on."
