Alaska Commercial Company's premium grocery arm, Span Elite, has purchased Alaska Harvest Deliveries, a home delivery service that brought fresh food to remote communities. The deal came together after the founder of Alaska Harvest Deliveries took a new role helping other business owners, which left her unable to run the company day-to-day.
Alaska Harvest Deliveries started as a small operation focused on getting groceries to people in hard-to-reach areas, where store trips can mean long drives or expensive flights. Over time, it built a loyal customer base by handling the logistics of shipping perishable goods across the state. The founder, who had been at the helm since the beginning, decided to step away to work directly with entrepreneurs on their own ventures. Rather than shut down the service, she chose to sell to a buyer who could keep it running.
Span Elite, which already operates several high-end grocery stores in Alaska, saw the acquisition as a natural fit. The company plans to fold the delivery service into its existing supply chain, using its network of stores and warehouses to make deliveries more efficient. Customers should see little change in how they order, though the company hinted at expanding the service to more locations over time.
Financial terms of the sale were not disclosed. The founder will stay on for a short transition period to help with the handoff before focusing full-time on her new work.
