Concerns Over Oregon's Economic Development Focus

Concerns Over Oregon's Economic Development Focus

Both Governor Kotek's Oregon Prosperity Roadmap and the Oregon Business Plan have sparked a mix of enthusiasm and skepticism among various stakeholders. As the director of an organization representing individuals whose livelihoods depend on both urban and rural businesses, I am increasingly worried about the implications of these plans. The emphasis on industrial and technological advancements appears to overshadow the vital contributions of Oregon's farmers, ranchers, and environmental stewards.

The potential push to prioritize development at the expense of our farms, forests, and watersheds raises significant concerns. These natural resources are not only essential for local economies but also play a crucial role in maintaining Oregon's identity and ecological health. As discussions continue, it is imperative that we advocate for a balanced approach that recognizes and preserves the importance of agriculture and environmental stewardship alongside industrial growth. The future of Oregon's economy should not come at the cost of its rich agricultural heritage and natural landscapes.
