Award-winning director Pablo Larraín is stepping into the distribution arena with the launch of Pijama, a new transactional video-on-demand service designed to empower filmmakers and challenge traditional industry models. Co-founded with his brother and producing partner, Juan de Dios Larraín, the platform aims to address long-standing frustrations within the independent film sector.
Pijama’s model offers creators an unprecedented 80 percent revenue share from rentals, a significant increase over standard industry splits. Crucially, it also grants filmmakers direct control over their rental pricing and provides the flexibility to license their work on a territory-by-territory basis worldwide. This approach is a direct response to the often restrictive and opaque distribution pipelines that can limit a film's reach and profitability.
The service is positioned as an affordable option for audiences as well, with rentals expected to be priced competitively. For Larraín, this venture is more than a business; it's a corrective measure. By placing more tools and a larger share of revenue directly into the hands of artists, Pijama seeks to create a more sustainable and equitable pathway for cinema to find its audience, promising a new level of autonomy in the digital marketplace.
