Tuskegee University has announced a new campus dress code that is turning heads. Starting this semester, students must arrive with a full business suit and a pair of dress shoes, and they are banned from wearing bonnets, du-rags, or any non-religious head coverings inside classrooms and dining halls.

The policy, which was shared with students over the weekend, is part of a broader push to promote professionalism and campus decorum. School officials say the goal is to prepare students for the workforce and to create a more polished environment for learning. Under the new rules, casual sleepwear, slippers, and pajama pants are also off limits in academic buildings.

Reaction has been mixed. Some students say the dress code feels outdated and places an unfair financial burden on those already struggling with tuition and housing costs. Others support the move, arguing that dressing sharply builds confidence and respect. The university has not yet said whether it will provide suit vouchers or a rental program for students who cannot afford the required attire.
