A Williamson County jury has ordered two Frisco businessmen to pay $400 million in damages for defrauding a Georgetown infrastructure company. The verdict stems from a scheme involving a fictitious development that the men promoted to secure work from the victim business.
The plaintiffs, a Georgetown-based firm specializing in infrastructure services, claimed they were hired to perform extensive groundwork for a large-scale development project that never existed. According to court testimony, the two defendants presented plans and permits for a sprawling commercial and residential community, leading the company to invest significant resources in site preparation, utility installation, and road construction.
The fraud unraveled when the infrastructure company discovered that the development had no legal approvals, no land rights, and no financial backing. The defendants had allegedly fabricated documents and used fake property records to maintain the illusion of a legitimate project. The jury found the businessmen liable for fraud, breach of contract, and unjust enrichment.
The $400 million award includes compensatory damages for the lost work and punitive damages intended to deter similar conduct. Attorneys for the Georgetown company stated that the verdict sends a clear message about accountability in business dealings. The defendants have indicated they plan to appeal the ruling.
